As part of project activities, SAMexperience partners interviewed SMEs about their current challenges when building strategic alliances to tackle global sustainable activities.

This article aims to present the findings of an interview conducted to an Italian manufacturing SME by partner Resolvo, in which the concept of a “sustainable alliance” was explored in relation to “corporate digital responsibility”.

The role of a Sustainable Alliance Manager focuses on building responsible partnerships that foster sustainable innovation and strengthen an inclusive corporate culture. This figure works to create transparent, longterm collaborations, valuing diversity and ensuring that social and environmental impact remain at the center of every joint initiative. A sustainable alliance manager coordinates partnerships between companies and organisations to promote responsible environmental, social, and economic practices.

Corporate Digital Responsibility, on the other hand, reflects an organization’s commitment to adopting ethical and secure digital practices. It encompasses responsible data management, strong cybersecurity measures, algorithmic transparency, and equitable access to technology. It also includes reducing the environmental footprint of IT systems, ensuring that digital innovation advances hand in hand with sustainability.

The synthesis of these two approaches is an ethical and innovative company.

The link between SAM and CDR is very strong, because both concepts aim for a business model that focuses not only on profit but also on social, environmental, and technological impact.

In practice, this role bridges sustainability and strategic relationship management, with the goal of creating shared value. The sustainable alliance manager works externally to the company, building networks and partnerships to amplify the impact of initiatives.

The result is a more environmentally friendly and digitally responsible value chain.
